Notes
John D Castellaw was an original member of Capeharts Baptist Church in Bertie Co, NC. He was received by letter of dismissal from either the Cashie Baptist Church of Windsor or the Wiccacon (Colerain) Baptist Church of Colerain. He was one of the deacons of Capeharts.
Original church members also include his wife, Zilphia, and his sister Charlotte Castellaw. Charlotte was still a church member in September 1836. John and Zilphia petitioned for a letter of dismissal in Feb 1834.
All three last names are shown in one place to be spelled Castillow, but in all other instances spelled Castellaw. A 'Trustim Castellow' is also listed. He was not a member of the church until 1851. This is probably John Dawson's brother's grandson, James Truxton Castellow.
John Dawson Castellaw led wagon trains to Tennessee.
Jno D Castallaw is listed in the Haywood Co, TN 1840 census. The household includes two white males between 0 and 5 in age, 1 white male between 5 and 10, 1 white male between 30 and 40, 1 white male between 60 and 70, 1 white female between 30 and 40, and 1 white female between 50 and 60. This would suggest that John moved to Haywood with his wife Zilphia, son Thomas and daughter-in-law Marah. John's grandsons, John Edward, Joseph Dawson and James Williams, would have been ages 7, 4 and 1 in 1840.
