Notes
There is a Joseph Castellaw, age 2, living with George and his wife Mary in 1870. George and Mary did not have a Joseph listed with them in 1880 and the 1910 census shows George and Mary being married 44 years with no children born to them and none living. George's brother, John, has a Joseph with him in 1880, the same age as this Joseph, and John has guardian bonds on file in Crockett County for a Joseph Castellaw, deceased father unnamed.
My theory is that Joseph's parents died and he was first living with George and Mary. I believe John adopted him sometime between 1870 and 1880. It's also possible, of course, that Joseph is George and Mary's son and for some unknown reason they could not take care of him.
