Daniel Carroll Succumbs at 67
Funeral Rites Incomplete for Navy Veteran
Daniel J. Carroll, 67, a retired Naval and Merchant Marine radio technician, died at noon Tuesday.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday at the funeral home of P.J. McMahon and Sons, 4800 Canal. Religious rites will follow at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church and interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery. Time of funeral services was not set Tuesday night.
Mr. Carroll began his Naval career at the age of 17 and served on the U.S.S. Roamer in World War I. In World War II he saw service in the Philipine Islands, the Coral Sea and other South Pacific areas.
Following the war, he served with the Merchant Marine at the New Orleans Naval Air Station and at Alvin Callender Field.
Mr. Carroll also served for many years as a special officer in the protective division-security service of the Civil Defense, organized several New Orleans credit unions and for the past two years was a rental consultant for Southern Land Title Corp.
A native of New Orleans, Mr. Carroll was a member of Lions International and was named Lion of the Year by a New Orleans Lions Club in 1961, a past commander of Crescent City Post No. 125, American Legion, member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, World War I Barracks, Red Cross, Peace Officers of Orleans Parish, past president and chairman of police affairs for the Fraternal Order of Police Associates and was the recipient of certificates of merit from Mayors deLesseps S. Morrison and Victor H. Schiro for "his kindly and unselfish spirit of personal sacrifice for the good of others."
Survivors include two sons, Daniel J. Carroll Jr. and Kenneth Carroll, two daughters, Mrs. Elba Moore and Mrs. Joan Cruz, and 11 grandchildren.

Carroll, brother of Frank Carroll, Mrs. Fannie Lambert, Mrs. Una McTague and Mrs. Mildred Haynes.
Relatives, friends, members of New Orleans Police and Fire Departments, City Officals City of New Orleans, American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Cootees, World War I Barracks, Fraternal Order of Police and Fraternal Order of Police Associates, Peace Officers of Orleans Parish, Lions Club, Civil Defense and American Red Cross, are invited to attend the funeral.
Services from the P.J. McMahon and Sons Funeral Home, 4800 Canal St., (parking in rear), on Thursday, Morning, July 6, 1967, at 9 o'clock, followed by Requiem Mass at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church.
Interment in Greenwood cemetery. Friends may call after 6 o'clock Wednesday evening. Masses preferred.
