First Day of Chemotherapy
September 7 2005
Judy's first chemo. Barbara went with her.
The lab results were in from Friday. All levels were good. Judy said the nurse said her blood was 99% oxygen saturated and her pH level was around 7, which is good.
Judy has been cutting way back on sugar, breads and meat, plus eating lots of vegetables and taking a multi-vitamin. She says, however, that her blood tests have always been very good and she doesn't think her diet has been in effect long enough to have contributed to the positive results. She will continue to eat healthy, though, because of the chemotherapy.
The Essiac tea arrived today. I don't know if she will use it. Judy wants to do the research herself and determine what course she will take. She's very cautious about things and the research I do isn't helping her make her decisions.
On Sunday and then again on Tuesday, Judy had bouts of losing her voice. Her ears have also been itching and parts of her head are sensitive.
Her chemotherapy consists of the drugs Etoposide and Carboplatin. Etoposide is in a group known as antineoplastic agents and Carboplatin belongs to a group known as alkylating agents.
Her doctor prescribed Promethazine for nausea. She did start feeling some nausea about seven hours after the chemo.
After opening the Essiac tea, Judy realized she could not make it. Seems you need stainless steel pots, spatulas, strainers and amber bottles. She will likely send this back.
