Alternative Therapies Treatment Diet
August 29 2005
Today was Judy's last radiation treatment. She goes back to the doctor on Friday for lab work and to set up the chemo treatments.
I started a list for alternative therapies and diet. It's hard to know what information to trust. So many sites contradict each other. I didn't get far, but I managed a short list.
The first thing I found out was that cancer feeds on sugar. Sugar also compromises the immune system. So sugar is out. Splenda is in.
Judy wants to take advantage of free massages and yoga classes, so that is on my list. These will be good for her body and spirit.
We will be adding garlic to her daily diet and also Essiac tea. I've found an inexpensive source for the tea. I'll put a link up after we order it and receive it.
Judy's sister, Marie, told her she would send a lot of information on homeopathy treatments. She has the Maitake mushroom capsules, which she purchased from Brazil and will send them, also. I planned on ordering those, but hadn't researched it fully.
I was really upset with the doctors today. The more I read about food, vitamins and treatments that build up the immune system, the more I couldn't understand why no one mentioned any of it to her. They know her cancer is so advanced that without the proper diet and good alternative treatments, she likely won't survive it. And yet they stay silent.
Her primary care physician did suggest a multi-vitamin and told her to eat right, but almost convinced her that searching out alternatives was a waste of time and money. When she came out of his office, she was set to stop looking at anything with a price tag.
I am very careful about the things I'm choosing for her. So careful, in fact, that I don't really have much for her yet. The Essiac tea is really the only thing we have committed to. That's because it's only 25 dollars a pound and many many people believe in it.
People facing a death sentence will often fall prey to unscrupulous vendors of miracle cures. Doctors know this. They also know what works. Why don't they sit the patient down with a list of wonderful, inexpensive immune building treatments and save the patient from having to weave their way through this madness.
